Global engineering and construction company M+W Group has been awarded a major contract to build a state-of-the-art semiconductor factory for SIX Semicondutores in Brazil.
The factory has a total area of more than 150,000 square feet and in it, microchips on 200mm wafers are to be produced primarily for industrial and medical applications.
The factory will be located in Ribeirao Neves, a city in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. The new plant is expected to serve the global market as well as meet Brazil’s rapidly growing demand for advanced microchips and make Brazil attractive for further high-tech investments.
The SIX semiconductor factory meets particularly high requirements on high-tech production standards and is specially shielded from soil vibrations and harmful noise influences.
All in all, the contract for M+W Group comprises the construction of the clean room (more than 53,000 square feet), the installation of all process systems and their connections to the production ("hook-up“).The project is jointly managed by the German and the Brazilian affiliates of M+W Group. The factory is expected to go operational in 2014. Client and partner of M+W Group is the Brazilian construction company MATEC.
“As the global market leader for engineering and construction of semiconductor factories we are very pleased to be able to contribute to the success of this high-tech project, which is so important for Brazil,” says M+W Group CEO Jürgen Wild.
SIX Semicondutores SA is a partnership among SIX Soluções Intelligentes, a technology company of the EBX Group, Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Economico e Social, Banco de Desenvolvimento de Minas Gerais, IBM and Matec Investimentos e Tecnologia Infinit WS-Intecs.
SIX Semicondutores technologies are enabling a new generation of advanced mixed signal / hybrid semiconductor devices and products. Its 130 / 90nm technology platform is a base to develop solutions across a broad range of applications, ranging from medical over micro-fluidics and sensors to the myriad of everyday devices the market demands.
The firm's technologies are complemented by advanced design and manufacturing capabilities, paving a fast, efficient track from concept to design to manufacturing.
SIX Semicondutores' technologies are licensed from IBM and its 130 / 90nm production capabilities are extended by a manufacturing collaboration with IBM providing access to a wide range of analogue mixed signal technologies, including high voltage CMOS and SiGe BiCMOS.
